DOEN Ventures invests in companies that contribute to a sustainable and inclusive society. By 2025, its portfolio comprised 70 partners, ranging from start-ups such as Food for Skin to established names such as Fairphone.
In a market where impact investing is facing headwinds and less capital is available, we decided to focus our efforts on strengthening our existing partners more than on funding new companies. We carried out 17 transactions during 2025, including two new investments and 15 follow-up investments.
Strengthening entrepreneurs
We deepened our collaboration with our partners, providing intensive support and, where necessary, additional funding. In this way, we helped businesses to shore up their financial positions and work towards sustainable growth.
We also played an increasingly important role as a connector. Many entrepreneurs have strong products and services but have yet to tackle the challenge of reaching a wider audience. By connecting our partners with larger buyers and each other, we helped them to take that next step and increase their impact.
Visibility and reach
Through the Postcode Loterij’s and VriendenLoterij’s communication channels, we are raising our entrepreneurs’ public profiles. Both lotteries include our partners’ products in their prize packages, enabling them to reach millions of people.
The Fair Future Challenge played an important role in raising awareness of new sustainable and socially responsible consumer products and encouraging consumers to make different choices. The competition boosted entrepreneurs’ visibility as well as public interest in sustainable alternatives.
Expansion and innovation
Our international strategy focused on the Netherlands and the rest of western Europe in 2025. We built networks in countries including Germany, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom, expanding our impact. We also continued to innovate. We explored new themes such as the blue economy, paving the way for supporting the next generation of impact enterprises.
Impact-driven investing
As an impact investor, we deem it important that social objectives are not subordinated to financial agreements. We are therefore partnering with the Legal Innovation for Sustainable Investments Foundation to develop investment templates, agreements that set out financial interests but also safeguard companies’ social mission.
In addition, we are actively working to promote diversity and inclusion within our portfolio. We invest in diverse teams and share knowledge with other investors in order to contribute to a more inclusive investment landscape.
