Masahat
With Masahat (‘Spaces’ in Arabic), Aflamuna enables diverse communities to transform suitable spaces, especially outside the cities, into vibrant and inclusive community cinemas. On the one hand, a boost is given to the development of infrastructure in places and communities with little access to cultural offerings, and on the other hand, people from those communities are given knowledge, skills and direction over the organisation of film screenings and follow-up discussions. This with the ultimate goal of making independent Arab film more accessible and promoting public debate on social issues in countries where freedom of expression is increasingly under pressure. Masahat is starting a pilot in Lebanon, Tunisia and Palestine, with an ambition to expand further to other countries in the Arab region.
