DOEN joins international networks working for a strong, regenerative Blue Economy
The DOEN Foundation is now an official member of two influential international networks in the field of water and oceans: ORRAA (Ocean Risk & Resilience Action Alliance) and 1000 Ocean Startups (1000OS). In doing this, we have taken a further step towards a future in which oceans are healthy and contribute to a sustainable economy.
Working together on solutions for healthy oceans
ORRAA is a global network focused on funding solutions that protect and restore oceans. DOEN contributes through co-financing of shared partner projects, as well as with our experience and network. Mawimbi Ocean Innovation is an example of a shared partner.
In ORRAA, we will work with partners from around the world on solutions that contribute to strong, resilient oceans. This means connecting initiatives, funding and knowledge to accelerate impact.
From local projects to a global ecosystem
We are also joining 1000 Ocean Startups as a partner. Set up as part of the UN Ocean Decade, this network has an ambitious goal: to support 1,000 ocean start-ups by 2030.
Together with partners such as Oceanhub Africa and Katapult Oceans, we are working on a strong global ecosystem. Events will be held, knowledge shared and regional networks, including Africa, are being developed.
DOEN contributes by supporting organisations that help entrepreneurs grow, such as incubators, hubs and programmes that mentor, fund and connect start-ups. We are also actively involved in projects, including in Africa. Ocean Hub and Hatch Blue are examples of these partners.
Building the power of water
These new partnerships align well with what DOEN stands for: building a regenerative Blue Economy. An economy where water and oceans are not depleted but restored and strengthened, and where there is room for innovative entrepreneurs and local communities.
By joining international networks such as ORRAA and 1000OS, we can learn faster, collaborate smarter and make a greater impact. Together, we will contribute to a future-proof world in which the power of water and the regeneration of oceans are central.
