Millennium Engineer Enterprises uses renewable energy to help women earn more from the catch and sale of sardines (‘dagaa’) on Lake Victoria in Tanzania. Solar-powered fishing lights allow fishermen to fish without kerosene lamps, and solar-powered drying machines significantly reduce the drying time of the fish. This approach uses less diesel, reduces food waste due to fish spoilage and gives women more income in a shorter period of time
