The theatre play and advocacy campaign Silent Voices gives a voice to war crime victims in North-Uganda. The play denounces the current "peace and reconciliation" approach in East-Afrika that consider forgiving the war criminals more important than to pay attention to the fate of the victims.
Although the official end of the war in Northern Uganda was years ago, the issue is very urgent. The subject is underexposed and still influences the everyday lives of many people. High quality theatre with a clear social engagement is very unusual in the Ugandan context and can serve as an important example in the cultural field.
