DOEN supports pioneers who are accelerating the transitions to a green, socially inclusive and creative world. Such as pioneers with solutions for better access to renewable energy. And projects that offer employment to people who face obstacles on the regular labour market.
In 2020, the environmental and social transitions were under threat because of Covid-19. In spite of that, DOEN funded a record 426 pioneers. New pioneers received support, and existing partners with acute problems received additional financial assistance. Their impact was preserved through the quick provision of bridging loans.

Green opportunities
The ecological limits of our planet have been reached. Drastic changes are necessary, such as a switch to renewable energy, a sustainable food system and a new, circular economy.
Social opportunities
Differences between rich and poor, and educated and uneducated, are greater than ever. DOEN wants everyone to be able to participate in society and have access to the labour market. Innovative community projects increase social cohesion in neighbourhoods.
Creative opportunities
Art and culture stimulate the imagination. DOEN supports initiatives in the Netherlands to celebrate the art of change, and abroad to create more space for imagination.
Impact investment
In addition to grants and load, DOEN also provides convertible loans and invests through the social investment company DOEN Participaties. DOEN Participaties and DOEN invest in sustainable and social start-ups. DOEN Participaties made 16 new investments in 2020.
