Charity Lotteries

In 1991, the National Postcode Lottery established the DOEN Foundation, with the following assignment: operate as an extension of the lottery (funding people and nature) and be complementary to the lottery. Since 1998, the DOEN Foundation also receives a yearly contribution from the VriendenLoterij.

Nationale Postcode Loterij (National Postcode Lottery)

The National Postcode Loterij was established in 1989 to support organisations that effectively work towards a more just and greener world. The lottery raises funds for its charities and promotes their work.

At the Postcode Lottery, your postcode is your lottery ticketnumber. This way you win together with your neighbors. Today, 3 million participants partake in the lottery. Each month participants have a chance to win hundreds of thousands of prizes and support 148 charitable organizations with at least 40 percent of the ticket price. Since the establishment of the Postcode Lottery, more than 7.3 billion euros have been donated to benefit people and planet. The DOEN Foundation and many other organizations receive support each year.

VriendenLoterij (FriendsLottery)

The VriendenLoterij is committed to all organizations that make life more beautiful by working preserving cultural heritage and investing in the well-being of people. Think of the monuments in your city or neighbourhood, the theater you like to visit or your local sports club. For the restauration of Dutch Arts or refurbishing the sports club property.

The Postcode Lottery and the VriendenLoterij form the National Charity Lotteries Holding. As a Dutch tradition, these lotteries are included on the Inventory of Intangible Heritage (UNESCO) list. The Postcode Lottery format is also active in Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and Norway. The Charity Lotteries together with the lotteries in these countries are the third largest private donor to charities in the world.
