Since we wish to be politically and religiously neutral, the DOEN Foundation does not provide financial contributions for initiatives with a political of religious objective.
The DOEN Foundation does not support initiatives with solely commercial objectives.
The DOEN Foundation does not support governmental initiatives.
Does your initiative relate to one or more of the following issues?
  1. Scientific research, debates, seminars, congresses, symposia and conferences with the sole purpose of dispersing knowledge (unrelated to DOEN’s investment priorities) 
  2. Awareness campaigns/activities, regular education (educational projects and teaching/school materials).
  3. Health care, primary care provision (including legal aid and rehabilitation, sanitation and (drinking) water projects .
  4. Emergency aid.
  5. Study grants, internships, study trips, student exchanges, group trips, (children’s) holiday camps and day trips.
  6. Anniversaries and other festivals, independent (regional) activities, parties and pop or other festivals.
  7. Restoration and building activities including renovation and rebuilding, purchase of instruments, materials, equipment, transport means, inventory (for example computers, office design).
Unfortunately DOEN does not provide financial contributions for one of the above issues.

Circular Entrepreneurship

Does the initiative relates to the following :
  1. The initiative has set up or carries out certification processes.
  2. Income generating activities.('livelyhood projects')

  1. The business has an ecological and/or social objective and profit is a means to that end.

  3. The initiative is innovative and its social and/or ecological impact is structural.
  4. The initiative is past the exploratory stage and is in a pilot phase or a phase of (early) market introduction. 
  5. Through the initiative, the initiatiator is able to set an example for the sector.
  6. The DOEN Foundation focuses mainly on initiatives being conducted in the Netherlands and East Africa

Sustainable Food System

Does the initiative relates to the following :
  1. Setting up or carrying out certification processes.
  2. Initiatives that are focused only on product level.
  3. Initiatives focusing mainly on animal welfare.
  4. Political or awareness-raising campaigns.
  5. Cultured meat or genetic modification mainly based on biotechnology.
  6. Initiatives that are aimed exclusively at improving living conditions – so-called 'Livelihood projects'. 
Does the initiative meet the following criteria?
  1. The initiative is by an organisation with an innovative business model aimed at a sustainable food system. Profit is a means to this end.
  2. The initiative contributes to, among other things: change in production/storage, less waste, fair trade relations and chain co-operation, local and short chains, change in consumers’ dietary patterns and/or a circular approach.
  3. The initiative is a demand-driven approach, set up with all relevant stakeholders and embedded in the local context.
  4. The initiative is innovative and its ecological impact is structural.
  5. A concept that has passed the research phase and is in a pilot phase or a phase of early market introduction.
  6. The initiator is able to use the initiative to set an example for the sector.
  7. DOEN focuses mainly on initiatives that are implemented in the Netherlands and East Africa.
  8. The initiative offers the possibility of replication and/or scaling up.

  4. The initiative focuses on different stakeholders, local and international, and on new processes for co-creation, collaboration and ownership. 
  5. The initiative gives opportunity to replication and/or up-scaling.
  6. Through the initiative, the initiator is able to set an example for the sector.

Social Enterprises

Does the initiative meet the following criteria?

The DOEN Foundation supports social firms with financial support from the Friends Lottery. Unfortunately, the Friends Lottery solely supports initiatives in the Netherlands.

New Meeting Places

The DOEN Foundation supports New Meeting Places with financial support from the Postcode Lottery. Unfortunately, the Postcode Lottery solely supports initiatives  that concerns social cohesion in the Netherlands.

Does the initiative meet the following criteria?

  1. The initiative positively contributes to the public space and the involvement of residents.
  2. The initiative adopts an unconventional, surprising and creative approach and residents play an active role in the initiative.
  3. The initiative is closely embedded in their environment and has demonstrable, social support. 
  4. The initiatives target unexpected connections that bring groups and individuals together who would otherwise probably not meet.

Creative

From January 2016, the cultural programmes of the DOEN Foundation in the Netherlands will continue by the name of BankGiro Loterij Fonds. More information about this fund and submitting an application can be found on: www.bankgiroloterijfonds.nl 
DOEN supports the Media Development Investment Fund to increase access to free media. Applications for individual media requests are no longer supported by DOEN.

Unfortunately DOEN doesn’t support initiatives by organisations based in Europa, U.S.A., Australia and Oceania.
Does the initiative concern one of the following  criteria?
  1. The initiative provides a structural contribution towards the development of creativity via inter alia training, production and/or distribution of arts.
  2. The initiative increases diversity with regard to the existing offer in the concerning sector.
