Stichting Doen

Culture

Within the operational field of Culture, DOEN supports initiatives that focus on the social power and social role of culture. These cultural projects respond to current social developments and enrich social debate through new perspectives, allowing people to look at issues in a different light. This creates freedom of thought, paving the way for new visions, opinions and developments to emerge: culture can break through the wall of indifference, short-sightedness and exclusion.

Cultural projects cannot fulfil this role, if they only manage to reach a small, privileged group of people. DOEN Foundation therefore focuses on projects, which manage to bring people from different backgrounds together, and encourage them to become involved and participate in culture without losing sight of the quality and character of the relevant cultural expression.

DOEN supports cultural projects in the Netherlands (including Aruba, Curaçao, Saint Martin and the BES islands). For international cultural projects, in relation to (in particular) developing countries, see the programme Culture, Media & Human Rights under Sustainable Development.
