Sustainable Development
DOEN’s primary focus in the Sustainable Development field of operation is on social-cultural and economic development that has a strong business base and a clear ecological component. The depletion of natural resources and the plundering of ecosystems is leading to (increasing levels of) poverty and nature is the economic lifeblood for millions of people around the world. Over 60% of the world's population are directly dependent on natural resources for their survival.

Culture
DOEN Foundation supports cultural projects because these can make a positive contribution to creating a better society. Cultural projects respond to social trends and frequently confront issues from refreshing, new perspectives. This creates freedom of thought, paving the way for new visions, opinions and developments to emerge.

Social Cohesion
The term ‘Social Cohesion’ denotes the enhancement of social interaction among community members. It is achieved when people work together to accomplish a communal goal, for example by participating in a local theatre production or a media project. Within the operational area of Social Cohesion, DOEN Foundation offers financial assistance to projects that put the community first and seek to improve quality of life in surprising ways.
