Here you can find a selection of projects, which DOEN has previously supported and which are a good example in the area of Green and Inclusive Economy:

GREEN AND INCLUSIVE ECONOMY

The DOEN Foundation’s aim is to contribute to the transition a green and inclusive economy where  entrepeneurs (social and sustainable) contribute demonstrable and positively to people and the planet.
To make this transition sustainable, financial profit is a precondition, not an end in itself.

Programmes
Through the use of sustainable energy the environment improves for now and the future generation. With the programme Sustainable Energy, DOEN shows that solutions are possible, efficiently and payable.
The DOEN Foundation’s aim is to give entrepreneurship an innovative, sustainable interpretation and it therefore seeks initiatives that contribute  demonstrable and positively to people and the planet.
To this end DOEN explores creative, innovative ways of adapting the economy to create more opportunities for this new entrepreneurship within its Designing a New Economy programme.
DOEN also seeks inspiring, concrete applications for this new entrepreneurship in practice within its Sustainable and Social Entrepreneurship programme.

Sustainable Energy (worldwide)
DOEN is helping to combat further climate change by directing its attention to reducing CO2 emissions. To achieve this, DOEN will over the next few years be supporting initiatives in the area of sustainable energy. Within the sustainable energy area, DOEN aims at preambles with a commercial treatment. Within the Netherlands we are looking for pioneers in the field of sustainable energy and energy saving; moreover we finance initiatives who focus on access to sustainable energy in Africa.

Designing a New Economy (worldwide)
Making the economy more sustainable for people and the planet means redesigning it. In order to achieve this DOEN focuses on innovative, experimental initiatives by organisations that break down barriers that impede sustainable entrepreneurship in the present economic system. Typical features of this include changing the economic dynamics on the market (for example by “sharing” or “giving” knowledge and/or capital instead of “trading” it) and by increasing the influence of market players who promote the interests of people and planet.

Sustainable Entrepreneurship (worldwide)
DOEN supports entrepreneurs for whom the creation of social and/or ecological impact have unconditional priority. The economic gains are therefore reinvested. In order to have the greatest possible positive impact on people and planet  these entrepreneurs are very aware of the impact that they have on all their stakeholders and they organise their enterprises so that they can adapt flexibly to their environment.  Sustainable entrepreneurs in developing countries, in rising economies and in the Netherlands are given special attention.

Social Entrepreneurship (NL)
Specifically for the Netherlands region (including Aruba, Curacao, Saint Martin and the BES Islands) DOEN places extra emphasis on social entrepreneurship that promotes the social participation of vulnerable groups in society, for example by offering a workplace to people who have poor prospects on the labour market. Businesses that, in addition to the social aspect, also focus on ecological sustainability receive special attention.

NB. For entrepreneurs  on sustainable transport: as from 2013 the DOEN Foundation no longer focuses specifically on this topic. Applications concerning innovative projects within sustainable transport can be submitted, if the application meets the criteria of Sustainable Entrepreneurship and complete with the condition that the initiative reduces greenhouse gas emissions or replaces fossil fuels.
