About DOEN

The DOEN Foundation believes that it is possible to achieve a green, socially inclusive and creative society. Many people using entrepreneurship to actively work towards innovative solutions for a better world. They are at the forefront; they dare to take risks and they bring about change. They break through old structures and create new perspectives on existing problems. These pioneers are also a source of inspiration for others.

Booster of pioneers

DOEN’s role is to support these pioneers in the very first phase in order to give initiatives a flying start, and thereby stimulate innovation. After this initial phase, DOEN transfers the initiatives to other parties where possible to increase their impact. By supporting these pioneers, DOEN accelerates the transition to a sustainable, social and creative world.

The DOEN Foundation was established more than 30 years ago by the Nationale Postcode Loterij (Dutch Postcode Lottery) to support small, innovative initiatives. Thanks to the players of the Nationale Postcode Loterij and the VriendenLoterij (FriendsLottery), DOEN receives an annual contribution from each lottery. It uses the money to help fund more than 250 pioneers with grants, loans and investment capital (via the investment company DOEN Participaties). In extending and complementing the areas in which charity lotteries operate. The Postcode Loterij Buurtfonds (residents' initiatives) and the VriendenLoterij Fonds (social enterprise and arts and culture) are part of the DOEN Foundation.
