For almost twenty years now, DOEN has invested in social and/or innovative enterprises both at home and abroad and has gained a great deal of experience in the world of 'impact investing'. In addition to financial support, DOEN also contributes substantive added value by bringing well-matched parties from the network together and this helps move the initiatives forward.

I. Investments
DOEN invests primarily in start-ups: enterprises just before or after market introduction. The investments are in line with the foundation's programmes. In addition, DOEN's investments are characterised by the intended effect of the social and/or sustainable impact, strong entrepeneurship, innovation and scalability. With its investments DOEN aims to demonstrate that it is possible to achieve both social and financial returns. DOEN reinvests all the proceeds from these investments.

II. Fund investments
With investments abroad where the DOEN Foundation lacks knowledge of the local context, or within a quite specific sector in the Netherlands, investing via an investment fund can be a more logical option. DOEN advances the financing and the fund is responsible for the portfolio management. DOEN often assumes the role of first investor in the fund. The same criteria apply to such fund investments.
DOEN's fund investments are in:

Start Green
Tendris Holding
Gray Ghost Social Ventures Fund
BPI Rwanda Fund
